His full name was Henry John Brown, but known as "Harry". He was also the nephew of George Mason, a Canterbury-Bankstown player and coach of the same era.
Harry was a versatile utility that could play at five eighth or in the centres. Later in his career he also played second row.
His father (also Henry) was captain of South Sydney Federals Rugby Union team, then played for South Sydney Reserves Rugby League team, until he lost a leg under a train at Eversleigh. Harry became a fitter and turner at C.J.Hayesmere's at Marrickville and played for Bankstown United Rugby League prior to joining the new Canterbury-Bankstown team.
Harry made his first grade debut in the first match against North Sydney as five eighth but could not maintain a regular spot in first grade.
During the Depression, Harry also played in Grafton with his uncle, George Mason.
