Greg Howard joined Canterbury in 1972 as a second row forward.
Greg started the 1973 season in third grade to become a regular member of the reserve grade team and played in the Semi-Final against Newtown.
Greg received the opportunity to play first grade against Penrith as a replacement.
He became a regular member of the reserve grade team in 1974, playing in the Preliminary Final against Easts (Roosters).
In 1975 he was promoted to first grade for Peter Cassillis late in the season and played in the Preliminary Semi-Final against Parramatta.
After starting the 1976 season in reserve grade, Greg was relegated to the Under 23s and played in the Grand Final against Easts (Roosters).
In 1977, Greg started the season in reserve grade but spent a lengthy period in first grade when Graeme Hughes was relegated.
In 1978, Greg joined Newtown to play seven games in first grade that season.
