Gordon Clunas was a great club man for Canterbury.

Joining the club in 1936 as a fullback, by 1940 Gordon had become a lock forward.

His debut in first grade was on July 31 against Western Suburbs in the 1937 City Cup Competition which was played in the second half of the season.

Unfortunate to be the understudy to the great Frank Sponberg, Gordon did get the opportunity to play first grade until 1940 and played in the final against Easts (Roosters).

In reserve grade, he was unfortunate to miss the 1939 Grand Final due to injury after playing in the semi-final.

Gordon was the third grade coach from 1946 to 1949 and returned for one more season as third grade coach in 1953. His 1947 team made the final against Easts (Roosters).

Captained by Frank Stewart, Canterbury lost the final 12-8.

Gordon was also Chairman of the Canterbury League Club board through the 1970s.
