Gerard Raper joined Canterbury in 1976 as a lock forward.

Gerard joined the Under 23 team mid-season to become a regular member and play in the Grand Final against Easts (Roosters).

In 1977, Gerard started the season with the Under 23s but became a regular member in reserve grade.

Gerard received his opportunity in first grade against Western Suburbs as a replacement.

In 1978, Gerard captained the 1978 President's Cup team but injuries interrupted his season and finished the year in Under 23s.

In recent years Gerard has been team manager for the NSW State of Origin side from 2000 to 2004.

In this time he was also named team manager for the 2003 touring Kangaroos.
