George Taylforth joined Canterbury as a goal kicking second row forward.

Originally from St George, he made his first grade debut for Canterbury in the opening game of the season against South Sydney and remained a regular member of the team for five seasons.

In 1966, George was appointed captain for the season. He captained Canterbury on 20 occasions from 1966 to 1968.

In 1967, George played in all first grade games including the Grand Final against South Sydney. In doing so, he managed to be the first Canterbury player to score more than 200 points in a season which broke Brian Davies 1960 point scoring record of 128.

After completing two further seasons in first grade, George joined Cronulla to play 35 first grade games between 1970 and 1972.

In 2004, George was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.
