A local junior, George Mason played 22 games for Western Suburbs between 1927 and 1929 as a half back.
George then spent the next five years playing in country areas of NSW.
Firstly, George was captain coach of Barmedman, and thereafter played for Central Newcastle.
George returned to Sydney in 1936 and joined Canterbury to secure the first grade half back position.
He played in the inaugural semi final against Easts (Roosters).
In 1937, George was appointed first grade coach for one season before the appointment of Jimmy Craig.
George Mason passed away in February 1996.
