Geoff Stretton joined Canterbury in 1952 as a five eighth.

After only playing one game in early 1952, Geoff commenced the 1953 season in third grade. By mid-season, Geoff was a regular in reserve grade and received the opportunity to play first grade when Ray Gartner was dropped to reserve grade.

Geoff played in the reserve grade semi-final against Manly in 1953.
