Geoff Connell played 28 games for Balmain in two spells from 1965 to 1971 as a second row forward.

From 1967 to 1969, Geoff moved to Brisbane to play for Easts.

He played ten games for Queensland and one Test for Australia during his time in Brisbane.

In 1972, Geoff joined Canterbury to become a regular member of the first grade team, making his debut against St George early in the season.

In 1973, Geoff was appointed captain of the team. He captained Canterbury on 20 occasions and played in the 1973 Preliminary Semi-Final against Newtown.

In 1974, Geoff commenced the season in reserve grade but returned to first grade for the finals and played in the Grand Final against Easts (Roosters).

In 1975, Geoff started the season in first grade but after being injured, returned to play reserve grade.

He played his last game in the Preliminary Semi-Final against Cronulla as a prop.

In 1976, Geoff was the Under 23 coach and the team played in the Grand Final against Easts (Roosters).

He was reserve grade coach from 1977 to 1980. His team played in the 1979 Grand Final against Parramatta and were Premiers in 1980 after beating Parramatta in the Grand Final.

On 12th December 1982, Geoff was awarded Life Membership of the Football club.

In 2004, Geoff was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.

Geoff passed away in March 2013.
