Frank Stewart joined Canterbury in 1946 as a lock forward.
The brother of Jack and Ken Stewart, Frank was captain of the 1947 third grade team that played in the 1947 final against Easts (Roosters).
Frank received the opportunity to play first grade when second rower Ken Charlton was injured, forcing Len Holmes to the second row.
Frank continued playing in reserve grade for two more seasons before retiring.
In retirement, Frank became a federal politician - a Sports Minister with the Whitlam government.
For his services to the club, the Stewart Stand at Belmore Sports Ground was named in his honour.
