Ewan McGrady joined Canterbury in 1990 as a half back.

Starting in reserve grade, Ewan received the opportunity to play first grade against Easts (Roosters) when Kevin Moore broke his arm. He became a regular first grade player for the rest of the season.

In 1991, Ewan played every first game that season and won the Rothmans Medal as Best and Fairest. Ewan captained Canterbury on four occasions during the season aswell as playing in the play-offs.

In 1992, Ewan was moved to fullback for the season. In 1993, Ewan became a regular member of the reserve grade team and played the Preliminary Final against Newcastle on the wing.

In 1994, Ewan joined Western Suburbs to play four games in first grade. He returned to country regions and in 2006 was still playing the game in Queensland.

In 2004, Ewan was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.
