Ernie Graham joined Canterbury in 1970 as a second row forward and became a regular member of the reserve grade team over four seasons.

He received the opportunity to play first grade against Western Suburbs as a replacement during the third match of the 1970 season. Ernie also played in the reserve grade Semi-Final against Balmain that year.

In 1971, he played in the third grade Premiership winning team against St George and in 1972, Ernie played in the third grade Grand Final team against St George.

In 1973, Ernie played in the third grade Semi-Final against Newtown but missed the Preliminary Final.
