Doug Laughton played for St Helens, Wigan and Widnes and was a regular member of the Great Britain team as a lock forward.

In 1974, Doug joined Canterbury mid-season and became the 400th first grade player to play for the club.

Doug was made captain for one game and after losing the captaincy, departed the club and returned to England.
