Don McIntyre joined Canterbury in 1957 as a winger.

In 1958, he progressed through the grades as a centre and received the opportunity to play first grade when John Russell and Clive Gartner were injured late in the season.

Don spent the next three seasons drifting between the lower grades. In 1959, he played in the third grade Preliminary Final against North Sydney.

In 1961, Don moved to the five eighth position while playing in third grade. In 1962, he became a regular in reserve grade and received his second opportunity in first grade when Ray Beavan was unavailable.

Don played in the reserve grade Semi-Final against Parramatta which was his final match for the club.
