Dick Mulheron joined Canterbury in 1960 as a goal kicking fullback.

Originally, a Rugby Union recruit, he progressed through the grades in 1961 before receiving his opportunity in first grade against South Sydney when Ken Peet was injured, playing on the wing.

In 1962 he started the season in first grade and played in the winning Pre-Season Final team against Western Suburbs. Dick played the initial eight games of the 1962 season befoe being relegated to reserve grade for Graham Tunks.
