Dennis Scahill joined Canterbury in 1968 as a centre.

In 1969, Dennis started the season in reserve grade and received the opportunity to play first grade against Cronulla when Max Brown was injured.

Dennis secured a first grade position at centre but by the end of the season was playing five eighth.

In 1970, Dennis played in the winning Pre-Season Final team against St George and was a regular in first grade, mainly as a five eighth. He played in the Semi-Final against St George.

In 1971, Dennis became a regular member of the reserve grade team and played in the Premiership winning team against St George as a lock.

In 1972, Dennis remained in reserve grade, occasionally playing first grade when Alan Burwall was injured.

Dennis played lock in the Premiership winning team against St George.

In 1973, he became captain of the reserve grade team and led the team to play in the Semi-Final against Newtown as a centre.

In 1974, Dennis continued as captain and played his last game in the Preliminary Final against Easts, playing centre. Dennis captained reserve grade side on 40 occasions.
