Dennis Manteit was playing for Toowoomba when he was first selected to play for Queensland as a prop forward.
He moved to Brisbane to play for Brothers and was selected on the 1967-68 Kangaroo tour. Dennis played 15 games for Queensland between 1964 and 1969 along with three Tests for Australia between 1967 and 1968. He also played in the 1968 World Cup.
Dennis joined Canterbury in 1970 but his first season was impacted by injuries and Dennis completed the season in reserve grade. He became a regular member of the first grade team for the next three seasons and played his last match as a replacement in the Preliminary Semi-Final against Newtown in 1973.
In 1974, Dennis joined Balmain to play 45 games between 1974 and 1976. He was captain of Balmain in 1975 and captained the team to win the Amco Cup final in 1976.
In 2004, Dennis was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.
