Dave Cotter played 63 games for Newtown between 1967 and 1970 as a winger before joining Cronulla to play 34 games.

Dave joined Canterbury in 1973 and became a regular member of the reserve grade team. He received the opportunity to play first grade against Easts (Roosters) as a replacement. However, Dave was injured late in the season and missed the finals.

Dave joined Parramatta in 1975 to play 10 games that season.

He completed his playing career on the south coast. 

Dave passed away in December 2002, aged 57.
