Darren Currie played 11 games for Penrith from 1986 to 1988 as a fullback.

In 1989, Darren joined Canterbury and started the season in first grade against Gold Coast. He was relegated to allow Glen Nissen to play fullback and despite being a regular member of the reserve grade team, he also played many first grade games as a replacement.

In 1990, Darren joined Illawarra to play 16 games from 1990 to 1991.
