Craig Madsen joined Canterbury in 1980 as a prop forward.

Craig became a regular member of the Under 23 team and progressed to reserve grade in 1981 before receiving the opportunity to play first grade against Western Suburbs when Steve Folkes was injured.

Craig played in the 1981 reserve grade Preliminary Semi-Final against St George.

In 1982, Craig started the season in reserve grade and returned to first grade when Graeme Hughes retired. However, his season was ruined by injury.

In 1983, Craig joined St George to play 10 games before joining Western Suburbs in 1984 to play 12 games from 1984 to 1985.
