Bruce Hopkins joined Canterbury in 1947 as a half back.

Originally from Easts (Roosters) juniors, Bruce was a handy goal kicker.

He played in the 1947 Grand Final. Season 1948 was Bruce's best year where his form pushed him into the representative spotlight.

Bruce played two matches for NSW and was selected for 1948-49 Kangaroo tour.

He was the first Canterbury player to be selected on a Kangaroo tour.

Bruce joined Balmain in 1950 and played 25 games in two seasons.

In 1954, he played three more games, this time for St George.

Bruce passed away in December 2013.
