Bruce Flynn joined Canterbury in 1950 as a hooker.

He was a regular member of the third grade team in 1950 and 1951. In 1952, Bruce did not play many games in third grade.

In 1954, Bruce rejoined the club and received his opportunity in first grade when Fred Anderson was injured in the second game of the season against Balmain.
