Bob Hagan played for Queensland in 1961 while playing for Townsville as a centre. He played ten games for Queensland between 1961 and 1963.

Bob played two tests for Australia between 1962 and 1964 as a winger before joining Huddersfield in 1964.

In 1967 he returned to Australia to join Canterbury where he was a regular member of the first grade team for three seasons and played in the Grand Final against South Sydney.

In 1968, Bob played one game for NSW and in 1969, he captained Canterbury on 11 occasions while Kevin Ryan was injured.

In 1970, Bob moved to Toowoomba for one season before returning to Canterbury to coach the first grade team in 1971 and 1972.

After departing Canterbury, he moved back to Queensland and was the inaugural President of the Gold Coast team in 1988.

In 1996, Bob was appointed Chief Executive of the Bulldogs before resigning near the end of the 2002 season.
