Bob Doyle joined Canterbury in 1966 as a centre.

After starting his initial season in reserve grade, Bob made his first grade debut at five eighth against South Sydney when Leo Toohey was injured.

In 1967, he started the season in reserve grade but was able to secure a regular position in first grade when Bob Hagan was unavailable through injury.

He played half back mid-season when Ross Kidd was injured and when Ross returned, Leo Toohey was relegated to allow Bob to play five eighth. Bob partnered Ross Kidd in the halves during the 1967 Grand Final against South Sydney.

In 1968, Bob was a regular member of the first grade team and played in every position in the backline except fullback.

In 1969, he continued in the utility role in first grade until he was injured late in the season. In 1970, Bob became a regular member of the reserve grade team as a lock and played his last game for the club in the Semi-Final against Balmain.

Bob joined North Sydney in 1971 to play eight first grade games between 1971 and 1972.

He moved to Gloucester and is recognised for recommending Robert Relf to join the club in 1990.

In 2004, Bob was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.
