Bob Baxter joined Canterbury in season 1944 as a hooker.
A long serving player, Bob was always available to fill the breach whenever Roy Kirkaldy, Don Sinclair and Fred Anderson were unavailable over a ten year period.
After establishing himself in 1944, Bob was on hand to replace the injured Laurie Bruyeres for the reserve grade Grand Final in 1945. This was his only game in grade that season.
Returning to the club in 1947, Bob became a regular member of the reserve grade team.
Sporadically moving between grades, Bob became captain of the third grade team in 1949. In 1950, he was captain of the reserve grade team.
In 1953, Bob played every reserve grade game before becoming captain-coach on the third grade team in 1954.
In 1955, he resumed as a player securing the reserve grade hooking role for three more seasons.
