Barry Stenhouse joined Canterbury in 1951 as a winger. He played in the third grade semi-final against South Sydney in 1951.
A local junior, Barry secured a position in the reserve grade team in 1952 and played in the 1952 Grand Final against South Sydney.
In 1953, he made an immediate impact in first grade, scoring 14 tries for the season and playing one game for NSW. Barry won the Herald Player of the Year award for his efforts.
Barry started the 1954 season with the same form but was injured early in the season. He made a comeback in 1958 but was not the same player that dominated in 1953.
