Barry Dickenson joined Canterbury in 1965 as a goal kicking fullback.

In 1966, Barry became a regular member of the reserve grade team and received the opportunity to play first grade as fullback against North Sydney when Les Johns was injured.

Barry started 1967 in reserve grade but his season was spoiled by injury.
