Alan Wells joined Canterbury in 1964 as a second row forward.

After missing the 1965 season, Alan resumed with the club in the later stages of 1966. He was a regular member of the third grade team from 1967 to 1969.

Alan received the opportunity to play first grade against South Sydney as a replacement in the last first grade game of the 1969 season despite playing third grade that day.

Alan played in the third grade Preliminary Final against Cronulla but missed the Grand Final due to injury.

Alan returned to start the 1970 season in reserve grade.

Alan passed away in February 2018.
