Alan Schwebel joined Canterbury in 1948 as a centre.

He became a regular in third grade in 1949 and in 1950 progressed to a regular in the reserve grade team.

In 1951, Alan secured a first grade position, starting the season as centre before moving to five eighth.

In 1952, he was back in reserve grade as captain but by the end of season had secured a centre position in first grade.

Alan was a regular member of the first grade team for the next three seasons playing at centre and was captain for three games during this period.

In 1956, Alan became captain-coach of the third grade team. He spent three seasons as coach of third grade.

Alan continued to serve the football club and in 1969 was appointed President of the football club.

He served as member of the Board of Directors for many seasons.

On 1st December 1981, Alan was awarded Life Membership of the Football Club.  

In 2004, Alan was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.

Alan passed away in July 2012.
