Alan Mason joined Canterbury as a five eighth in 1954.
He became a regular member of the reserve grade team in 1954 and received the opportunity to play first grade when Ray Gartner was injured.
In 1955, Alan became a regular member of the first grade team, as five eighth, with Ray Gartner playing centre.
In 1956, Alan joined Balmain to play 50 first grade games between 1956 and 1962.
He captained the Monaro team against South Africa in 1963 before coaching the Balmain first grade team in 1974.
