Alan Kent joined Canterbury in 1938 as a goal kicking fullback.

With injuries to Tommy Kirk and reserve grade fullback Jim Pratt, Alan was selected to play his only first grade game against Western Suburbs in which the team came away with an impressive 32-5 victory.
