Jerry Brien

Coach # 5

Jerry Brien played 52 games for Western Suburbs from 1924 to 1928 along with two games for NSW.

He was unfortunate to be ruled out of the second Test against Great Britain due to a shoulder injury and was never given another opportunity to play for his country.

A halfback, Jerry played three games for St.George in 1929 before retiring.

Jerry became coach of Canterbury after Jimmy Craig departed the club winning the City Cup in 1939 and returned to be coach in the Premiership winning season of 1942.

After World War II, Jerry became a national selector and was a major figure involved in the dumping of the incumbent Australian captain-coach, Len Smith from the 1948-49 Kangaroo tour.
