Frank Burge is probably Rugby League's greatest ever try scoring forward.

Frank is one of three Burge brothers (Alby and Peter) that played for Glebe during the years of the first world war.

Playing lock forward, Frank played 149 games for Glebe before playing 18 games for St.George in 1927 as captain-coach.

Frank made his first grade debut at 16 and has the current first grade record for the most tries in a game when he scored eight tries for Glebe in a match against University in 1920.

Frank played 13 tests for Australia between 1914 and 1922. His tours include the 1919 New Zealand tour and the 1921-22 Kangaroos. He also played six games for NSW between 1912 and 1926.

In coaching Frank Burge was a strong teacher of discipline and physical fitness. His other coaching positions included North Sydney in 1935, Newtown in 1940 and Western Suburbs in 1947.

Frank was coach of Canterbury in 1936, the club spent almost 50% of it's saving for this important recruit. In return, the team played with structure and purpose and despite the inexperience of it's players, achieved a semi-final in 1936.

Frank passed in July of 1958 aged 63.

On February 22 2008, Frank was named in the 100 Greatest Players as part of the centenary year celebrations.
