Clive Churchill played 164 games for South Sydney between 1947 and 1958 as a fullback.
One of the originally selected immortals of the game, Clive played in the 1949 Grand Final against St George before playing in the 1950, 1951, 1953, 1954 and 1955 Premiership winning teams. Clive missed the 1952 Grand Final due to injury.
Clive played 27 games for NSW between 1949 and 1957. He played 34 Tests for Australia, 24 Tests as captain.
Clive played in the 1948-49 Kangaroo tour, the 1952-53 Kangaroo tour, and the 1956-57 Kangaroo tour. Clive was captain-coach of the 1952-53 Kangaroos.
Clive also toured New Zealand in 1949 and 1953. He played in the World Cup in 1954.
After being captain-coach of South Sydney in 1958, Clive moved to Brisbane in 1959 to captain-coach North Sydney to a premiership.
Clive coached Queensland to a rare series win over NSW in that year. He was selected as a non-playing coach of the 1959-60 Kangaroos before returning to NSW to be the state coach in 1961 while coaching Moree.
In 1963, Clive joined Canterbury to coach the first grade team for two seasons without success.
Clive was also the Australian coach during this period, although he was not appointed coach of the 1963-64 Kangaroos.
In 1967, Clive rejoined South Sydney to coach the club for the next nine seasons including the Premiership success in 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1971.
The Grand Final loss to Balmain in 1969 was a major upset at the time. Clive passed away in August 1985 at the age of 58.
On February 22 2008, Clive was named in the 100 Greatest Players as part of the centenary year celebrations.
