Bill Kelly

Bill Kelly originated from New Zealand where he had been a dual international.

In 1914, Bill joined Balmain as a centre and played his one test for Australia in that position.

In 1915, Bill played in the Premiership winning Balmain team as captain and played two games for NSW.

At the end of World War I, Bill became a regular coach at various clubs including University in 1923-24, Newtown 1936-37, Balmain 1938-43, St George in 1944 and Canterbury in 1945. His Balmain team of 1939 won the Premiership.

In 1997, it was decided to name the 'Best and Fairest' for the annual Anzac test the 'Bill Kelly Medal' in acknowledgement for his role with Rugby League in New Zealand and Australia.
