Albert George Henry Why, under the alias of Alby Carr, of Indigenous descent enjoyed a successful career at South Sydney where he won three Premierships in the 1920s and representing New South Wales - before reverting to his original name in his final season in 1930. 

Born in Brewarrina in 1899, Why's family moved to Redfern where he played out his junior football in Wellington, and later, Mascot, and was the brother of Souths International Jack Why. 

In 1950, Why became coach of Canterbury for one season, but with the departure of Vic Bulgin in 1951, Alby returned to coach the team again and remained until the end of the 1952 season.

Alby passed away in December 1969.
